What about a retro mtb magazine??

An interesting deabte and some good points made, esp by CK.

There's an interesting story about a cool and slightly leftfield MTB website which developed into a cool and slightly leftfield MTB magazine which is now a MTB magazine and website like all the others. Does this story have a point? You decide.

We here at RB definitely have plans to get something in print. Hopefully this year (although we say that every year). It won't be taking the form of a monthly mag though and will be done (as ever) for the love and not the money.

Well that has to be fantastic news John and exactly what I am driving at I truly believe that it would be amazing to get this wonderful site in print in one way or another. I would be a regular reader as I love reading about cycling....If there was anyway I could help I would be glad to but if not I will deffo read it

What about folk on here, getting a test run on other folks steeds or components and doing write ups on them bike mag style. You could have bike comparisons within groups of bikes of similar style from similar years.

I know you can read original reports from BITD but they dont include the insights we have from years of riding and the knowledge of how technology has moved on.

Could be fun 8)

Back in the mid-eighties I produced a few fanzines and distributed a few that covered the hardcore punk scene.
Times have changed, but it would be easy to recruit a bunch of writers on here, collate their articles into say a 20 A5 page 'zine and create a pdf file.

Anyone with access to a printer/copier at work could then run off a few (few hundred even!) in there lunch break and you could give them away at all the events next year.

Just a thought...Happy new year!

that would be the heart of any "zine"
articles submitted by the masses
theres a huge diversity of characters on this site from the anal resto (their term)folk to well every thing else ,factual to humorous real retro (ck +) too
newbees

i would think if 10% contribute something that would give a heap of
content ,there is potentially many catogeries of content too ,forum posts tend
to be a "real time" reply to another post ,a mag article can be worked on to be longer and thus more interesting (stating the bleedin obvious i know)
from restoration serialisations to techy stuff ,ride reviews, comparo tests(as
suggested before) whats in your shed galleries ,stories from bitd and a shit
load more
sounds like it might work if we all do a bit

happy new year

'Memoirs of a mad man' by E.D. Edwards might be a good start.

or perhaps a work of fiction like:

'The day I rode my Manitou' by Easton Welder

Like "mikee" says if we all do a bit then I could really see it working....There is a wonderful opportunity to really push the boundaries with this website and make what is great into amazing  I like the idea of retro rides getting the reviews that they never got but should have from times gone by. No one is going to be more honest than the riders and owners of retro bikes so we could do it as oppose to digging around in old mags to read reviews of bikes that have only been given half a days testing if that in the past. As John stated if it happened then it may not be a monthly thing but whatever it is or becomes I believe it could be fun :D
