Well Lads, sandblast or paint stripper?

Paint stripper is easy to use and cheap to buy. Finish off with fine Aluminium Oxide paper all over, mask off as required and take to your
industrial finisher. I would ask for an etching primer followed by the top coat of your choice ( I prefer wet painting/stove enamelling over
powder coat, but this is just a personal thing )

Then " build it your way "....................................... and enjoy

Checked out a local shop that stocks Hammerite and they only stock Black and Silver, so I may need to get them to order in, if they will that is.
The other alternative I have thought of is from my other hobby (building model cars) there are paints by Tamiya for replicating Airforce paint jobs, with many shades of gray available I should be able to replicate colour quite easily, if anyone wants to check them out, check the AS- line of paints

Re:

I'd sandblast it for the best finish.

I'm not sure what the available paint stripper is like in NZ, but over here in the UK it's been "decaffeinated" the past few years, probably for H&S reasons, and takes ages and much more effort to strip a bike.

Have to agree about UK paint stripper. I have recently been stripping a Kirk frame, and having used up my old 'stock' bought a new supply.
It seems to take more than twice as long to achieve the previous results

I have in the past used an airbrush to paint a frame using air drying modelling enamel. Would this not be an option for you ?

Gerryattrick and focomat 1c Thank you both for your replies, I have had experience with stripping paint off window frames before but not steel, so I guess that is a positive in a way as this new stuff is what I will learn to use, so I will not have the frustrating comparison to the older gen stuff.
I have talked to a couple of bike nerds here in NZ and they have told me where to go!! They have actually told me where they get theirs and it is somewhere I would not have thought of.
I have this Muirwoods and a 1991 Team Marin that the previous owner had painted Matt black to hide the neon Green!! So that needs to be done too.

I am not surprised they told you where to go!

I say blast it. With a shotgun, from close range.

Got me looking for a zolatone Pine Mountain now. Barsteward!

Like to help where I can mate, I wish you bad luck with your search!!??
Hang on . . . . are you cool enough for a Zolatone Pine Mountain? Lol
