Weight Loss Advice Please

Rotating weight is best as this counts three times as much I think. Cheapest? Bodily functions cost nowt.

sound advice - weigh your tyres and tubes. We all know that MrsGT owns scales

You'll be suprised how much weight you can save on tubes alone for a cost of £10.

I just put some Michelin tubes and Specialized Houffalize tyres on the DBR TT and saved 300 grams (over the Specilaized tubes and Onza Rip and Rail tyres). Its now sub 10kg!

You've gotta watch them Branston boys, pie-shifters the lot of'em

Cheeky git!

Seriously though, I think I will change tyres/tubes. These new bikes just seem to be getting heavier.

The RTS is 26lbs (confirmed on Mrs GT's scales  ), which means that the Avalanche must be about 27/28ish lbs. Not happy with this :x

Beat me to it!!

I was going to recomend prunes.....

I should'nt worry too much about bike weight. Modern stuff with decent forks, disc brakes etc is always gonna be heavier than racin' snake retro stuff. Flip side of the coin is it rides better. (mostly)

If your modern bike is about 27lb your doing ok. As others have already said though rotating mass is where it's at for weight loss 8)

I disagree a little with your modern v retro weight statement. You can get non retro full suss carbon bikes that weigh next to nothing (in the low end of 20lbs)

My '06 Orange 5 weighs 28lbs, which isn't bad for a 5" travel all mountain full suss bike.

My '03 Orange Gringo weighs in at ~27lbs (or it will do when I fit a set of Reba race forks to it!)

kenda klimax lite 345g each
bolt on skewers
ti bolts for stem
al bolts for levers, shifters, mechs, bottle cages
you'd be suprised how much weight there is in a full bikes worth of steel bolts

I agree that new stuff rides better.

Now I've got rid of the riser bars ( :D for messin, :x for proper riding) the Avalanche is a sweet ride, more comfy than the RTS.

However, at 26lbs the RTS is a lovely weight for singletrack ragging, so I'd love to diet the Avalanche to close to this, and have this in a hardtail.
