Some may be already familiar with my features on the Raleigh Clubmans and Lentons for the RetroRaleighs site. These were written more than a decade ago and I have re-written and expanded that on the Clubmans with a new article on my Ipernity site:

There are also other features on both the pre- and post-war Raleigh Record Ace (RRA), Raleigh Professional etc.

As these can be easily updated and edited, corrections/suggestions or additional photos are welcome.

Re:

Hi Peter, Great to see you here. I appreciate the way you have collected specifications for the Raleighs, but you are completely wrong on the club riders aspect.

These Raleigh Lentons etc. were never used by post war UK club cyclists, whatever raleigh publicity material claims. The club riders would create their bikes from individual specialist frames and components. At the time there was a purchase tax on complete bikes but not on components.

The same applies to Sturmey Archer gears.

I was using a ten speed gear system by 1949, but most club riders did not convert from fixed wheel to multiple gears till the mid 1960s.

Hope this helps.

I am probably the last person alive to have used the Campagnolo Paris-Roubaix gears in a genuine road race.
