Way back when you first tried spd's..

Still not tried them, but am thinking about it, got the shoes, pedals next, hopefully dual sided touring pedals so clip in or not depending on my level of nerve.

Shimano 737's back in 1991 or something. Never looked back, clip in on hardtail or full sus. Only time flatties are used is on BMX, it's a bit tough doing supermans and no foot can cans clipped in!

I think I had some cheap vp 101 in yellow :? about 1994 maybe....fell off twice and never since....(well I have fell off but not because of pedals)

Then m737 until last year and now xtr spds on all bikes 8)

Got mine in late 91/early92 M525's iirc. Got on fine with them. Have used various other makes since then.

Currently alternate between M540's, DMR V8's and M730 beartraps depending on weather I have child seat on my bike and what mood I'm in  .

Never used SPDs.

However, first flurry with clipless pedals was original Onza H.O.

Day they came out - '92/3?

Now installed on all my bikes with a big stockpile of spares!

When you try them out do it somewhere you can have a soft landing  ..and away from the crowds...just joking lol..loosen the tension right off if theyre pedals like shimano. Since Ive used those have never had a problem, always seperate from the bike in an accident or tumble..just happens, dont have to think about unclipping.Advantages over flatties are you feet stay put over rough terrain not bounce all over the place so you loose grip..other is you gain a pull on the pedal as well as a push ...

I got 535s when they came out after years of clips and straps. I went to the local park and made all the kids laugh as I fell off a few times but they've become part of me now. Can't ride without them; end up with smashed shins and that bunny hopping kerbs etc.

Saying that I still have a few embarrassing offs every now and then but that's just my lack of riding prowess rather than a fault of the pedals themselves  As Bikebandit says, make sure you get yourself as far from the bike as possible lest it land on your head....

Mine were 525, in 93/94. One of the first rides was in a very muddy forest (I know, stupid). On a very technical decent (again, stupid). Suddenly I stood sideways on the track. I fell down very slowly, not being able to "unclick". The cool track was suddenly a painfull slide, with a bike between my legs...
I'm still complete, and no complaints from my girlfriend

Onza HOs here too. Didn't try SPDs for about 3 years after I got the HOs, once I did, i couldn't get on with the lack of float. By that time, I'd mainly use Sharkbites, so stuck with them.

Got HOs and Sharkbites for my build 8)
