Can't help you directly, but if you're not fussed about brand, 10 speed Campag levers work with a Shimano 8 speed cassette and mech. No messing or fiddling to get it to work

no rush, but let me know over the next couple of weeks if you find anything. I'm also thinking for touring - drop bar end shifters (yet andother part I sold and should have hung onto - I had an Ultegra pair that would have done). Thanks

Thanks for those - I like the idea of either of those, just can't decide which way to go - will depend if I can source a nice pair of standard brake levers for drop bars, preferably something with the longest possible pull so I might get a set of canti's to work with them. I used to have some cane creek brake levers only for drops but - sold them with the last trailblazer I built as a complete bike unfortunately. I will let you know, and thanks for the photos, if you could let me know along the lines of prices and that will probably help forge the decision on which way to go to. regards for a good B/H MS
