Wanted WANTED: Nice 27.5 wheel set, with old school 9mm Q/R axle hubs

WANTED: nice quality branded wheelset would be nice in 650b size with old-school 9mm quick release axle size

(My Ritchey 650B build I finished a few years ago with an SLX group, and a new tear-down basic wheelset from a mid-range GT cycle. They are actually great wheels still in perfect condition, but its still nagging me that the Ritchey probably deserves to ride on a better quality wheel set. However, its getting harder to find a good set of wheels that are on traditional QR hubs and not boost or thru-axle as this must be one of Ritchey's last f&f MTBs that took standard hubs.

I had a similar challenge recently and another one but for non-boost.

The qr hubbed wheels challenge was solved through a purchase of a cheap-ish wheel to close match the one I had. It wasn't for a top end bike but qr hubbed 27.5 wheels seem to be harder to find if you want a half decent set.

Then on to the non-boost option. Not finding much at a reasonable price for my needs.

Solution to both. Buy the hubs and rims and build the wheels. Once I am sure of the spokes I need, I'll be building some around hope pro 2 Evo hubs. May be an option for you as well, as you can get qr end caps for the hubs.

You could buy a set of wheels and simply swap the end caps over, assuming the hubs allow. You can also get a kind of universal adapter which is simply a qr axle that fits all the way through the existing bolt through axle.

I'm sure there are many hub options out there, hope and Mavic are 2 I've used in this way on builds.

What sort of wheels are you looking to build up?

As I mentioned, I'm going to resort to this using hope pro 2 Evo hubs on some wtb i30 rims.

I may have a second set of rims and hubs.

yes as I treat my 650B as my "go-to low-land cross-country" ride these days - just a set of classic MTB XCountry wheels for disc brakes.

I don't need to run tubeless (even thought the Goodyears fitted will support that), so just something classic and oldschool with black or silver hubs that will take the old Ritchey QR levers I already have fitted and I will build them up with butted stainless spokes and reliable chrome plated brass nipples
