VW Passat (B5) TDI warning message

Just had a warning message come up on my Passat - Emissions Workshop. Haven't noticed any obvous symptoms loss of power, smokey exhaust, misfiring etc. Anyone got any clues as to what it could be before I take it to a dealer and get my pants taken down?

give a blast down a motorway, 3rd gear to the redline - would be the advice if it is what I think it is. Lots of short journeys clog up an emissions thingy that the name of escapes me.

Could also be the Exhaust gas return valve, I disconnected mine but that was on a TDI 130 Passat

It is a TDI 130, may try the 3rd gear redline on the way to work tomorrow. Does the error message clear itself if the problem goes away? Could do with going to the dealer anyway as parking sensors are getting tempermental too.

Dealer will charge the earth. The EGR can be disconnected very easily. Its just underneath the engine cover at the back. A small pipe, pull it off and that is the EGR bypassed.

Parking sensor could probably be jsut dirty connectors - get under there and clean the connections!

Yep, probably just the connections and my money is on it being the connections on the right hand side sensors that you can't get at easily because of the fuel tank.

^^ Top tip. A blast along in 2nd gear (no motorway handy) seems to have cured it. Thanks.

Lgf, if you disconnect the egr is the ecu supposed to be altered too so it knows it isn't there?
