voodoo erzulie (I think) advice

Hey guys, looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help. been looking for a decent mountain bike for a while and have just been offered a voodoo pretty local to me. They said it was a voodoo 18 they thought, but never heard of that. its bright orange and sounds like an erzulie. all I know is its a voodoo, its orange and it has front suspension and caliper brakes.

Its all original apparently (havent seen any pics but its only a few miles away so might be having a look soon) but I was wondering if anyone knew what sort of price I should be paying for it (and if theyre any good offroad as well)

Just dont want to even consider it if the seller is asking way over the top for it as its taken me ages to save the money and dont want to pay a fortune for something thats not worth it. thanks everyone.

they're good off road, very similar to a kona.

£100-200 depending on spec is fair for a functionally sound complete bike

apparently its all original spec but dont know what that is. think he said XT rear mech. and all in good working order.

know theyre the same as Kona because Joe Murray set up voodoo from what Ive read. Ok not a bad price then. Got it up for £100.

sounds like a fair deal - worst case if its not what you want you could always break for parts or sell on complete

A £100 is a bargain,my erzulie is currently my bike of choice over another 7 or 8 in the garage including a columbus tubed kona.

Also building a 99 hoodoo with what i reckon is the exact same frame.

Absolutely great frames in my opinion 8) 8) 8) 8)

cheers guys, hopefully will be having a look this week. charlieboy I have spent hours looking at yours dreaming of getting it like that but I think Im going to be keeping it original if I get it

mine was a mint totally original rigid erzulie, which i think was one of the 1997 ones sold in 1999 it was so mint, flat bars and STX RC groupset, i went xt everything apart from the STX RC/ voodoo wheels, which has turned out to be a great wheel set

I have a pointless ano affliction though and the orange was calling out for some blue

she just about gets away with the 100mm travel bombers with a 90mm stem.

they are just a lovely lovely springy zingy ride, you will love her.

If it's original and it has an original XT rear mech, then it's more likely a Bizango, which is worth far more than the range you're talking about - I would say a size 18.5 97/98 Bizango frame alone would raise about £150-200. I say this because the Erzulie was sold with either an STX groupset or an STX-RC/LX groupset, so you would only see an XT rm on one if it was a later upgrade - and you understand that it isn't. The Bizango was also orange, just like the Erzulie, so they can be hard to tell apart if they have lost their decals.

The designs are by no means identical to Konas, although I agree they are similar. I would rate them as slightly more desirable than an equivalent Kona, but their market value is less. The Erzulie would be equivalent to a Lava Dome/Cinder Cone, while the Bizango is a higher level than an Explosif, being made in the USA, so is equivalent to a Hot (but with a market value a lot less than a Hot).

Great bikes...I got rid of my '94 Kilauea and now have a 2007 Bizango with 853 tubing and I love it.

I was going to say the same as Anthony...may very well be an early Bizango.
