Viva Le Tour 1962

Brilliant film, thanks for the link.

I'd be interested if there is retro Milk Race footage out there in cyberspace somewhere too.

Which leads me to a new thread...

Excellent! A great find, many thanks. Super shots of all my boyhood heroes. Van Looy, Anquetil, Bahamontes, Baldini, Altig, Darrigade, Graczyk etc.- they're all there! Also some old teams that I'd not heard of such as GS Ghigi?

Loved the police motorcyclist with the "do not push the riders" sign on his bike! Would Cav have got away with all the pushing that Darrigade got! Not surprised they were being pushed thinking of the gearing they had back then.

It's in my Favourites :D

BTW, the link is wrong as posted, get rid of the bracketed 'url' part.

Thanks so much for sharing that.

The most amazing piece of film making and the most incredible cycling film I've ever seen. Remarkable on all levels. I'm going to watch that a few times!

I've just realised that this is NOT the '66 Tour but the '62 edition. I thought it a bit strange with Van Looy and Baldini in it. Podium in '62 was Anquetil/Planckaert/Poulidor as shown in the closing images, the '66 event was won by Aimar riding for Ford.

You can see the list of riders, teams, stages etc here -

And for all the other editions over the years!
