love the groupset ..... specially that chainset - you can see where Shimano got their ideas from can't you
Beautiful looking ride

I have every model of shimano crank and none match the sheer beauty of a "Starfish" , which one do you think is similar ?

I was always taken with that Mavic chainset - gutted when I had to sell mine a couple of years ago to add to the 'nappy fund'

Such an 'non-obvious' build in a world of generic machinery - health to ride!

I remember these bitd, loved the look of then then and I still do now. The chainset is a real piece of art isn't it.
I've been thinking of building a bike with that Mavic groupset but struggle to find much. Were you looking for a long time for parts ?

Mike. I've managed to put the groupset together over two or three years, or nearly anyway; I still need a stem and the French threaded headset. I have either a 979 France Loire that is currently Chorus equipped, or a Carbone 9 that is Dura Ace equipped. Just work hard on ebay, particularly France and US. The parts are out there if you search.

Hello latman. Yes I also have the Rubis 23mm and the Vitus Aero 25mm. Thank you.

There's a Peugeot branded Carbone 9 on e bay atm if anyone is tempted, 58cm, (my size).

The mavic stuff lasts and lasts great quality. One small word of caution re the starfish cranks, if the chai wheel bolts are original they had a habit of shearing think they were alloy. Might be best and safer to replace with steel if you haven't done that. Either way these bikes ride brilliantly hope you use it a bit. For the carbone its a 23mm post and I got a 23.4 off ebay and had it turned down if you can't find a rubis

Yes, I replaced the original black alloy chainrings bolts and put steel. And finally I put a 9 speed chain, because it works better with 53/39 setup. Koolstop pads initially squeal working on paris roubaix rims, I had to sand it a lot and a few kms later the noise become to disappear.

reminds me somewhat of the newer hollow tech crank sets you get nowadays

Noticed you need a narrow ferrule on the rear cable end/stopper.
