it's only the alloy rear axle of the model 500 hub that scares me , I have broken 1 of them already so I am seeking out a model 550 which is improved (but still dodgy IMO)

Oh crikey, how fa, er, large  are you?

I have the same hubs for mine,

mike

was mid 80s , only axle I have ever broken , the 550 has the bearing further outboard which is theoretically better

Re:

It's not logical captain!

So what we really need is a hub design with a needle roller bearing, running the length of the axle. Hmmmm.

Re:

Will be interesting to see how long my 500s will last then

the front will last forever ,but I advise to stay away from potholes to save the rear , the long unsupported DS section , soft alloy axle and built in stress riser are recipes for disaster IMO ( I have attached a cutaway pic of the model 501 rear hub , the model 550 is Very similar)

Hey LatMan,

Beautiful bikes/components, my friend...respect!!

May I please enquire as to the best way to locate a pair of Mavic 821 shift levers? They're the final piece of my "puzzle" that I require for my ADR-Agrigel Bottecchia replica of Lemond's '89 bike - not the neon yellow TVT92 "Bottecchia" that he used in the mountains (which I already own but with all 600 'tricolour' componentry), nor the red/white TT bike made famous by the classic final TT of the TDF & his 8-second win, overcoming the prior 52 second deficit - just the red/white SLX frame that he used for normal, flatter stages...

Thanks heaps for your time...cheers & best wishes...Matt.

they are both 130 BCD but ISO taper , the type 2 can fit a smaller big ring , and it looks lighter too if that concerns you ,The type 1 pictured (not mine ) has an incorrect TA large ring by the looks of it. I think the type 2 crank came with the Dia Compe brakeset group and the Type 1 came with the Modolo made brakeset group , there was a later group even that i have never spotted online anywhere

this mech puzzled until i saw your post, kept thinking it was stickered up by someone else and might have a Sach unit.
