viking frame bottom bracket impossible, help

Hi everybody,

im new in this forum, my name is Rafa, from Spain but living in the beautiful Belfast.

I have a viking frame which im restoring.

I need to pull out the right "bowl" of the bottom bracket. i have the 36mm spanner and i have to do it in clockwise, but... its impossible... any trick for get it?

Give it a good soak for a couple of days with Plus-Gas (NOT WD40) and it should loosen up.

If the frame is about to be re-painted, then a little heat (don't go mad and melt the frame) works wonders on stubborn threads.
Also, are you 100% sure it is a left handed thread? There are bottom brackets out there with right handed threads on right hand cups...

Agree with the soaking in PlusGas too. Regularly over many days if you can afford the time.

im not going to repaint, i want only to update the bottom bracket, so heat gum cannot be used.

im going to try this famous plus gas but i need to find a place where i ca buy, here in Belfast...

therefore, im going to build the sheldon tool, i think could be easy to build it, i can find screws and nuts in a hardware store.

Plusgas is just a brand of penetrating oil that happens to be tried, tested and liked. Other penetrating oils will have the same effect given enough patience and persistence. Biggest issue I've found in freeing bottom brackets is getting a good close fit on the cup with the tool. I take it you have managed to remove the left hand cup? Lying the frame down on its right with a yoghurt pot or similar under the right cup should help let the penetrating oil (applied from the left side so that gravity helps get it into the threads) soak in.
Actually, with the axle out, it should be possible to get a little heat in there right on the cup without risking the paint. Don't start a fire though!!
