VHS to DVD Q.

Old School Grand Master
I got one of these today to convert a load of vhs to dvd:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/KWorld-MAKER-US ... B0007W5LWI
Now I have a problem in as much as the connectors on the gizmo are the same as the ones on video. The colours are right but both sets are female. Am I missing something obvious? Do I have the only incompatible vhs on the market? Have I been sold a dud?

Your help, as ever would be appreciated.

The connector on your video are probably inputs for other things, like a camcorder etc.

You'll need a SCART to composite adaptor thingy* and then the cables to connect them up. Or if you have SVideo out (sometimes labled as SVHS) you should be able get better quality using that.
Then you'll need the cable to connect them both (edit 3RCA male to 3 RCA male, 3 as one carries sound, one luminance, one chromiance)
Unless you have the outputs already (not normal for the average VHS player). Not you cannot use 'Component Video' outputs.

Just play a VHS player into a DVD recorder/computers video in and hit record? You don't really need all that dongle business.

This won't work well with pre recorded tapes as they have Macrovision copy protection so you need a VHS machine or a recorder with a time base corrector or time base software for a PC.

If it's just dirty home video's/ cherished memories you're converting then you won't need to worry about this as domestic camcorder equipment won't screw the time base up.
