VB Doon Agoon...

For those who are interested: Jon, the Velobase owner posted this in his update thread over on BF C&V yesterday.

Quick update, some might have noticed VeloBase has been up and down a few times over the last few weeks since the MySQL update with a '503' server error. This was happening due to something causing the server to stop entirely, forcing me to go and manually reset it. I pushed another update yesterday that should prevent those 503 errors going forward, or at least that's the hope.

As @bulgie has been kind enough to offer we download all we can it may be a good time to look at something like HTTrack - that allows you to download full sites.

https://www.httrack.com/

Then with a local copy of velobase you need not sweat if the site takes a breather.

Just as an aside I did this - and could not get the cached copy of the site to work locally. I had all the component pages but they are not referenced to that component (eg the page for a Campagnolo C Record Crankset is not labelled 'Campagnolo C Record Crankset' but by an index number - so you cannot run a local search and you need the main site index to find it. As the cached site is 3.8GB a browser running the index.html file collapses under the weight and can't index - at least on my PC.

If anyone knows a way around this (apart from running my own webserver) please let me know.
