Ok, bare wth us, pondering over lunch about a little project im building;

Frame has Canti Cable Mount, I really love using Canti's and want to continue on this frame.

Forks are V-Brakes only (RC38's Cannot swap Brace on these)

want to pair the two up and want some nice levers which will operate both effectivle, thus keeping cosmetic harmony.

Can it be done? What levers are best? or am i best going V-Brake all-round?

Nice simple answers please, its Monday and already brain frazzled with work........

Many thanks,

Jussa :D

some avid levers do both and some budget levers had cable stops for canti and V when there was that strange cross-over period.

Cheers fella :) , dont suppose you have and specific model numbers of the levers i need to look out for?

You could have a custom brace made. If you provide accurate measurements and schematics, a good machine shop should have no problems creating one.

Hi fella, I did think about that but i'm thinking the cost may rule that route out. :( and my tech drawing skills are not what the used to be, been a long time since i was at school lol

Real, Avid, machine tech all did levers where you can adjust the cable pull. Possibly even some xt ones of memory serves. Happy to be corrected of course. I may have some real levers in green anno somewhere. Oh, ritchey did some too I think?

Would be interested if you do have some and they work :)

A specific model to use for canti-rear/ V brake-front, is:
'Avid Speed Dial 2.0'
They work with standard cantis and longer arm V brakes (Shimano XT, Machine Tech Zeroflex QL).
I haven't tried any of the later Avid 'L' models (e.g. SD 2.0L),.

best bet is to get a set of V-brake levers for use, as Canti specific ones won't work well at all. case in point or Avid ones. Even though both Canti and V levers have the "speed dial" to adjust cable pull, it's still not enough on the Canti version to get it running properly, and the V brakes feel too "soft" and "mushy".

Real Design levers have two positions you can put the cable end into. However the earlier model needed you to put in an insert, which most people have lost so the V specific slot is useless, as the cable tends to slide into the canti slot. The later X-lever design the slots are independent of each other so there is no issues.

this is all from experience, as I own all sets of levers mentioned above. I have no experience with Machine Tec, so won't comment. ;)

if you are set on using Canti brake levers with V, you can also pick up a Problem Solver "Travel Agent" which is a pulley device you hook up to the V brake arm to increase the cable pull ratio.
