but you said your 200mm steerer is too long by 40-50mm??? makes 160 about right?

When i first got the frame i shoved in the fork without the h/s fitted ,just to see how they looked ,thats where it had 85mmm sticking out,
When i said it looked too long ,this though may have just been panic ,as nothing on this build has gone right so far

when i look at it in the clear light of day and i take off say 12mm for each cup plus 50 for the stem and a couple of spacers, It looks not too long

got it back ,added the spacers and the stem ,and low and behold, it aint too long after all

So not just unthinkable, but even unnecessary! Life's not all bad.

I tell you what I think is unthinkable - went into my local (and good) LBS for some silver stem spacers and they said we don't sell them any more! But he scratched around in the workshop and found a few in a drawer and charged me £1.20 for them. I said 'so that's the end of an era, is it?' and apparently it was. RIP silver stem spacers, it was nice knowing you.
