Does anyone have any clues as to the possible make of this vintage track frame please ??
All I have are these images as its maybe going to be a possible purchase, the bloke says it was maybe an Eddy Merckx but I have my doubts, the lug work is nice and apart from surface rust looks sound, I am waiting to here more info on it in the morning then go have a look on Wednesday hopefully, any help would be greatly appreciated...…….thanks in advance

It looks like an English-made frame from mid-late 50s to me.

It’s common to find those Nervex lugs on track frames right up into the 70s (E.g. Falcon) but I think yours is earlier.

Edit: thinking about it, I don’t think they’re Nervex. I think they might be hand cut to that shape, which might give some clues if you trawl the frame builders section of classic lightweights. The fork bend is quite low down which I think would place it earlier in the 50s than later. It’s quite nice. Definitely worth saving, but it might be tricky to nail down the builder because the lug work is not that characteristic that you’d immediately be able to pin a particular builder on it.

Re:

It's only up for £35 and the fella said it was originally bought local and belonged to someone famous who won a few races on it, I am waiting for more information from him tomorrow hopefully so will let you know if he helps more with the identification etc.... Thanks again

Re:

Odd having mudguard eyes on the front forks only. Possibly Nervex Legere lugs, any patent info under the bottom bracket which somehow doesn't look nervex.

Agree mid to late 50s, British built.

I'd wondered if they'd been filed off at some point. The rear bridge is drilled, which could point to an upper mudguard mount as much as a brake. But having said that, it's quite tricky to get a wheel out of a mudguard with horizontal dropouts...
