Univega Alpina 506 from 1996

Dirt Disciple
Bought locally from original owner and in fantastic original condition apart from a couple of minor rust spots which I've treated and the rear wheel running very slightly off true.

Rides beautifully, very light, quick and stable at speed. Was a little reluctant to fit my Ergons as it was so original, but I don't think they look out of place after all.

I really like that bike. The frame geometry looks basically identical to my Alpina 5.5. It is very lightweight and rides really nice. I use mine basically as a commuter, but ive also hit trails with it very versitile bike.

Thanks for the nice comments. It's the perfect bike for the kind of riding I do.....twisty hilly lanes with uneven road surfaces and the odd light trail thrown in. And yes I love the colour too :)

SNAP! I have the exact same one, had it from new and loved it from the off.

Have you any plans for it? the colour looks good with a bit 3DV on...... but that can get expensive

Have a look at mine in my link below, its just a frame/fork wall ahnger atm but will be getting put back to original spec once the RockLobster is finished

Tony....

Yes thanks Tony, I saw your 506 thread and liked what you did with yours....the purple looks fantastic 8) I haven't really thought about doing anything to mine as yet as I'm a bit of a noob and wouldn't really know where to start. I'm happy just to ride it and clean it atm.

Just had a tentative go at truing the rear wheel and it's looking a lot better. Could probably spend more time on it to get it perfect (at the risk of making it worse  ) but it seems ok for now.

Gear and brake cables are looking a bit tired so probably best that I replace them. Any recommendations?

Should I also replace the housings or just flush them with WD40 or the like?

Re:

You may as well replace the outers too (how long have they been on the bike?).
Plenty to choose from, can't go wrong with genuine Shimano, I also use Jagwire.
Nice bike!
