Saturday at Mont St Anne was an astonishing end to the season. The news of Loic Bruni turning away from the start gate was unprecedented in recent DH seasons. If you are interested in more detail as to what lay behind his decision not to drop in, there's an excellent short interview which has popped up in the sports press - link below. He was in quite a state from a practice accident. A deep muscle hematoma is a Nasty Thing. I have had two of these in two separate seasons. The first took a couple of days to heal sufficiently for me to be active. I expected the second to be the same only to find that it was MUCH worse. Deep bleeding throughout my lower leg, massive swelling, risk of compartment syndrome, vascular compromise to the lower limb. Two days for reasonable function for the first incident. Six months to get back full function for the second. Really very bad. So although he could move, I could understand just how much impairment he could feel. It's a serious, very compromising injury. Like Amaury Pierron, Loic B is a tough person, very tough. But like all the DH crowd he is amazingly accessible to understanding journalists. He shows such humility in the interview below.
