Might be worth looking to see if you could get it built up with weld and then redrilled & refaced. And/or you could add a bracing piece.

I had thought about that - but my understanding is that after they were machined, they were then heat treated / annealed prior to annodising (but not totally sure about that), I would be nervous about building up the mounts with weld and reforming them - but it has certainly crossed my mind. There is always that moment of dread when heading down an hill at speed and he welds detaching and then thinking "err.... nope, that wasn't the best idea!" Watch out... MOVE!

If you want to make it soft get it welded!
