U-brake question

Re:

My MTB era only started in 1994, but after more than 10 years in retrobike I have learned a lot about the older days

I love U-Brakes. They are not my go to brake however as this has to be a V-Brake. I rode an original 1987 Rockhopper with an under chainstay U-Brake and hated the damn thing in the wet mud but I have to say they are strong. I bought two black XT U-Brakes to fir on a Double U frame but never got around to finding one. If one pops up i'll probably do a build off the back of it. A Saracen would be perfect.

P.S. I can setup a U-Brake perfectly with my eyes shut. Very easy to do really.

I love the look of those old bikes. The early rockhoppers were cool. It's a very different approach from what I'm familiar with. I just can't imagine that an under the frame U-brake would perform very well. I'm sure they pick up all sorts of dirt and debris.

They work terribly in that location anywhere away from the equator :-)

The slightest hint of rain or mud and they just get clogged up and stop working.
