I have managed to split the sidewall on one my Ritchey Megabite 2.1's. Annoying because these are my favourite tyres

I must have nicked it on a flint on Sunday. Its a clean rip in the sidewall, almost from the bead to where the tyre tread starts, and you can just see the inner tube.

Would you trust a patch on the inside style repair, or is this only good for Garage Queen/The Bin? Any other ideas to save it?

I'm gutted, as the tyre was mint......hardly used.....and I bet I cant find another

Thick mesh patch on inside should be ok - I've had one in a tyre for about 3 years with no issues. Probably not "recommended" but it works for me.

:P

Cyanoacrylate adhesive ("superglue") to join the cut edges and then a decent sized patch on the inside is probably the best you can do.

It's got two chances ......

Same happened to me at the weekend, was going to bin them. What material should the "thick mesh patch" be?

I've just used normal (big) repair patches but something like self-adhesive scrim tape would probably work well too.

Patch the tyre up then cut a toothpaste tube up and run that between the tube and the tyre, that'll spread the load around the split.

If you PM me your address, I'll send you a small bit of Tesa Tuff Tape, which is like gaffa tape but with a far better adhesive.
