Turning Right and Ignorant Drivers

I know people in cars / vans / lorries lack skill and patience, I drive as part of my work, but it's the blatant ignoring of clear hand signals that got me going a bit this weekend, especially as in every case, and as is always the case at the end of my road, overtaking saved no time at all.

Impatience, combined with ignorance and a dash of tunnel vision on the side, dangerous stuff.

As for making life awkward for horse riders, we get far more abuse shouted at us from cars than I have ever got on a bike. But that's an entirely different puzzle.

today, approaching my house, I raised my right arm to signal my turn, a car passed me while indicating left and pulled into the block opposite mine.

I followed him in and gave him a piece of my mind. He say there silent, with a smug look on his face. I'm surprised I was able to control the urge to smash him in his smug face

I seldom see other cyclists giving hand signals (well, I see plenty of hand signals that aren't listed in the Highway Code! ), but it's usually more senior roadies who use hand signals, seems to be a dying art, so it's no wonder modern car drivers haven't a clue.

Couple that with the number of generally clueless people in our country and you have a signifficant majority of motorists who don't know what a hand signal is (unless you count the "V"'s or the "bird" ), don't care in any case, and blindly go about their business.
Sadly, in most cases even an accident doesn't bring them to their senses, as it's always someone elses fault.

FWIW I do signal left and right when on my bike, I feel like a tool doing it, but I still do it, for what its worth...
