BTW there are 2 versions of the BB7. The vintage Avids, and the newer SRAM versions.
I use the ones I bought in 2004, or ones from Ebay ($35/pair). So for true retro snobs there that to disagree about.
The newer ones have a cross shaped outer adjuster, and a bigger inner knob like the BB5 has. They also have a hole over the pad area with a stainless clip in it.The originals were smooth on the back, had smaller coined edges on the knobs and had a silver finish which was typical of bike parts back then. 2008 seems to be the dividing line according to parts vendors.
I'm not sure which housing the newer "road" version has. Or if the leverage is different?
