On an upcoming Zaskar build I`d like a set of Spins or similar. They are thin on the ground and good ones go for bananas coin. What are the easiest to find of all the carbon wheelsets?Ive never had a set so any info appreciated on issues and what to look for etc....

Re:

The prices seem to have gone a bit mental for a decent set. One thing I’d consider is whether it’s worth it as they don’t ride that well at all and are quite heavy. However I love the look which rules it for me. The best value way could be to watch out for a full bike and then sell the parts off. There was a Cannondale on eBay last week with a set that could be broke for a few hundred leavin the wheels.

I had a set of Spins on my Zaskar, I think they were the third maybe fourth set I've had over the years. Sold them last year for £350/400 (I can't remember exactly) because to be honest whilst they look great, they're awful to ride and as they're getting to be worth half decent money they're best sat on display so they don't get damaged. Mine were in very good condition but most have cracked rims, dodgy bearings, etc.
I'd agree with the above, probably the only way of getting any at a decent price is to buy a bike with them on and break it for parts to cover as much of the wheel cost as possible.

Re:

Spins are probably the easiest to find, and imo look "right" on a GT.
I'd expect to pay £200+ for a set depending on condition.
I have some 700c Spinergy wheels that came on a bike I bought, the main reason I bought the bike was for the wheels!
But if you put out some feelers on here, Facebook etc you might find someone wanting to shift a set of Spins at a reasonable price.
The worst thing you can do is pay over the odds for a set because you "must have" them, then a month later an identical set pop up for sale at half the price

Re:

When I got mine they seemed to be £300+ for a decent set. Even £400 for a really set isn’t unheard of. I had a set of X517 on XTR hubs before the spins and they rode so much better and were half the cost. The spins are just cool that’s why most have them.

Re:

Yeah,I know they are kinda shite but I really want them as they go with a GT like crisps and beer.Whats the deal with freehubs and other consumables? Are they interchangeable with conventional hub spares?

Re:

From my limited understand ....no. I came to conclusion that if you are buying some then get the best pair you can as if you buy a rough set then it’ll cost more in long run even if u can get spares.

Re:

If you look on eBay “Cannondale F900 commuter bike” there is a full bike at £550. I’d be offering £400 for that at best. Should break up ok for bits and wheels look ok

Re:

I have a perfect set, not even a mm out of true and spin like a dream. Bearings and free hub arent bespoke so you can get replacements easily enough.

Not selling mine I'm afraid.
