it's really interesting to read your comments about the gearing on your bike. as i posted on the puerto pollensa holiday thread, i had a 39 x 26t bottom gear on my dura ace 8 speed set up and it just wasn't nearly low enough to cope with a. the long climbs b. my level of fitness. c. my level of fatness!! :oops:

does anyone know if shimano ever made a dura ace triple of that era or indeed any high end triple that's capable of taking larger rings than a 48t big ring? i'm sure that the touring shimano chainsets of that time were 48/38/28t, but i've no idea whether larger rings were even made for those cranks or not.
