Tony Shumacher did a 4.42 and a run at 336 MPH in the quarter mile before the run was shortened to 1000'. The record at 1000' he set at 3.77.

I am amazed anyone can run that fast without at least a real good tailwind

I often wondered why the hell people bother with 1000 foot, but then I realised it was a kind of benchmark as 90% of the top fuel dragsters were going quicker through 1000 foot than the 1/4.

The modern top fuel cars are so fast that if you were driving a Ferrari at 200 MPH and crossed the starting line at the same time a fuel car launched--the fueler would cross the quarter mile finish line first!
