Top cap for carbon steerer forks

I have a set of 1 inch steerer Mizuno forks on my Rourke; the steerer is for an ahead type headset and is made of carbon, this means the hole down the steerer tube is only about 18 or 19m and I am having the devils own job finding a cap, which in turn makes getting the headset nice and tight is a little... erm, challenging.

I have looked at the type of cap that has a long rod that goes right down the steerer, but the brake mount effectively puts the mockers on that solution.

Does anyone know of a top cap assembly I can use with these forks?

There must be one, as there are loads of carbon forks with carbon steerers.

Assistance much appreciated.

Carbon steerer forks normally use an expander type top cap, not sure how widely available they are for 1" forks though.

Ohh lummy, that was quick Tel.

Yup, that's what I thought.

Got any trade contacts you can ask?

I use sjs all the time, they are just down the road from me, shame the shop is long since shut, as I could save myself postage.

I might risk one of those, as it seems to be specifically for carbon steerers.

I could always give them a call, I don't think I've spoken to sjs, but UKbikestore are excellent and really know their stuff... or at least every time I've spoken to them.

Thanks guys.

That's the plan, as I have a shim fitted and a 1 1/8 stem.

I have the same arrangement on a couple of my bikes, but they have metal steerers, so I can use a conventional 'bosh down the tube' type fixing.
