Too taco'd to rebuild?

if it is bent half and half, I used to take them and grab the rim and press the hub into a tree. then true. had one that was fairly bent and a customer wanted me to replace it. I said '' Sit back and watch, It will be good as new in no time'' So I take the wheel, tire and all, with bend facing away and whack it on the ground. I put it in the stand.... ten mins later..... a damn near true wheel I might say... :) It was primitive. But did the job and looked fairly impressive too. 8)

I just called it the reversal method. Over tightening spokes can rim them out of their seat, break the rim, or spoke. You will notice when you get the wheel as close as possible to true by tightening it and you have loose spokes on the opposite side. if any of my ramblings make sense.... :?

Here's two better pics - although truth be told, it doesn't tend to be easy to reflect what I'm seeing with my eyes, in a picture that accurately reflects the degree of taco-um-ness...

Don't be sorry - it's the opinion of the expert eye I'm after - thanks.

My conflict has been not wanting to waste something that would really suit a bike - but also (and as fate would have it, I can't find the thread, now) I wouldn't want to somehow coerce it into trueness, then have it go twaaang whilst out and about.

I would lay them flat under weight for a while, then build them up with the heaviest spokes.

At the worst you will have heavy duty near straight wheels.

I would buy them off you if you had a nice price.

Used to straightening wheels on the fly, having spent years doing these highland mountains on road bikes.

:)
