Titanium weld repair - can it be done twice?

these are fixes of badly designed but nice pretty ti frames. Pretty welding is easy, but with these fixes, you have to put material back on to create the strength to prevent it failing again

Ladies, this is what your lovely little pretty welds do on a mainstream titanium frame - from an engineering perspective they are not good or strong welds or designs - so break, catastrophically fail in fatigue, have a good evening 👍

Ahhh so you need to make sure the welding looks like 💩 to make sure it lasts 😉 Gotcha.

I’ve no doubt as previously mentioned that it’s functional. But personally I’d never want a frame with unsightly welding like that.

You should check out Dan chambers repairs. Always leaves me astonished at what is possible.

Hi :).. you can make pretty welds that don't break in the first place, but most frame builders welders / designers cant aren't pro engineers so cant tell the difference or figure out why they fail, or understand the modus operand of fatigue in Titanium and the material properties to prevent that type of crack propagation. Fixing them is tricky but focusing on making repairs pretty, tends to reduce the strength because the original designs need changing, and loads redistributed where they failed were flawed. With heat treated, al frames there are a whole raft of different heat treatment issues to overcome.

It surprises me how many Ti bikers think ti is a great material and deny its downside

Impressive weldingis that who you used mate do they take in postage jobs do you know really good for price I was going to say until read everything have a go yourself if it's knackered anyways what have you to lose that ewhurst bikes is as crazy as bat shit spend all that on a bike and that knob did that to my bike I make him eat it mine wasn't the same I had a cracked aluminium headset tube so I grounded the crack just a fraction then bought these aluminum brazing rods OK I had to heat it to something silly then filled it with brazing sanded it down you could see it but it was flat and it lasted were I live it's easier to do shit yourself
