Tioga disc drive - lesson learned today + help please

I bit the bullet and unlaced the disc drive from the rim it came with (a panaracer rim, but it had a ding) and set about lacing it up to a newly acquired mavic 217. Seems simple you'd think, but no, the 217 rim profile means that I reach the end of the threads before the disc is fully tensioned. DOH!

So, what rims have people used when building up their disc drives?

Once the disc is tensioned, anyone got any tips on truing?

When lacing up, any tricks and tips as it doesn't feel right to be holding the circular bits in the disc with a finger either side of the plastic.

I bought a disc drive tool but can't fathom what or where it would serve any purpose.

How tight should the Kevlar/disc be?

What hub alternatives are there to the m737/9 mine came mated to?

Can anyone help me answer the above so I can get it built up and over to my lbs for dishing and truing? (I do the best I can but I've not got the proper kit).

Sorry for asking lots of questions, I'm a little frustrated as I'd hoped to get it built up today and have had an epic fail as they say.

Thanks Rick, looks like I'll be looking for a rim of that nature now.

Anyone have any thoughts/advice relating to the other questions?

Cheers for that, I'll give that a go and see what it yields. Just need some advice on building it, and what on earth the specific tool is actually for?

The tool in the palm of the hand below the valve extender? it's a spoke wrench on one end and a socket to reach down inside/in between the disk halves and tighten the nuts on the inside of the hub flanges on the other end.

That's the one, my confusion is probably related to the spike wrench end, as a dd has no spokes.

Has anyone got any bright ideas as to how best to tighten the rim bolts whilst preventing the parts attached to the Kevlar from twisting other than gripping them through the webbing? Just want to be as gentle as possible with it when building it up. Technically the disc is already built so just transplanting rims.

Wish I'd seen this Thread before today.. Are you still building the Disco? I know a Dude who will build it for you; he laced mine up to a 117 which also has a higher profile than a 231/261 etc.
