Been wondering about the Tioga disc drive lately, don't know much about them except John Tomac used one a lot, AND GREG HERBOLD, even tinker ;) infact quite a few famous cycles including tim gould at some point in time...

what is the purpose and advantage ?,AERODYNAMIC, softer ride
are they heavier than a standard wheel ?,YUP
i only recently found out that they can be built onto a conventional rim and hub, are they a specialist job to buildNOT MEGA SPECIALIST IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, BUT DEFFO MORE HASSLE
and repair ?,QUITE A LOT OF REPAIR KITS APPEARING ON EBAY RECENTLY, but basically when the cord thins, or snaps, or you put a rock through it its pretty much fooked (I've broken 2 of em.. still love em for retro purposes tho ;)

what is they webbing made of ? KEVLAR do they need a lot of maintinance ?BUGGAS to clean the inside of, only really a problem with the clear pro, as you cant see the dirt on the standard blue disc. mine seemed to need tensioning a fair amount

Cheer's for that  ,

no probs :)

Heavier.
Don't last as long (resulting in never staying true or grenading altogether)
Don't get caught in a cross wind.
Super flexy.
Expensive.
Need constant maintenance.
Don't get them wet or leave them in the sun.
Difficult to inflate tubes.
Special tools required to build (if you can even find a mechanic that knows how).

But....they look cool as sh!t and sound even better. John Tomac, Greg Herbold, and Ned Overend used them amongst others.
