Time for a modern bike classifieds section?

pretty sure the forum software allows you to hide sections from non-members and also by post count

so maybe open it up to people with 50 posts?

Yeah that would be a good way of doing it , help keep it small too .

Would be nice to just see the old stuff people are selling . Isn't there a way of having the title to a thread enlarge when the cursor is over it ? the title can be short like normal but a box of text showing the whole thing enlarges when wanted ; or is that something I have made up

I quite like the car boot nature of the For Sale section, nice to find a wee bargain now and then. I'd rather see a crap filter and especially the endless bumping of crap. 10* bumps and your out.

* I'm being generous with 10 I feel. Some people bump for 2 pages.

One mans crap is anther mans bargain

I'm with perry too. . .

Something another niche site I (not very often any more) frequent did was to open another forum..

The main site was about anything in relation to the core subject (rabbit hunting, in this case)..
When popularity set in and the value of the community was realised, it was hard to keep all posts based around one core subject so another forum was formed for everything else..

It sort of works over there and, even if for a second, could be worth a thought?

In a word no.

To expand we would not currently consider a 'modern classified' section because
➡️ We simply don't see the need. I've scanned the first couple of pages of for sale and don't see a huge amount of modern stuff.
➡️ The moderation effort and hassle would be incredible! I can just imagine the irate PMs because somone has had the for sale post of their Trek Bigjumper 2006 moved. My eyes.

Of course everything is subject to change. If it becomes a bigger issue or inidviduals take the mick we will act. Also have an idea of being able to filter the classifieds at a user level which we'll be looking into at some point.

To deal with a couple of other issues raised

➡️ no intention of upping the post limit for the classifieds. If Bill Smith wants to sell his Orange Clockwork which has sat in his shed for 15 years and that's his only post ever then so be it. Better a rb user has it than someone out the local paper.

➡️ I feel the work of myself and the other mods does and is keeping the site reasonably focussed. If someone wants to setup a thread to discuss "what is retro" then go for it. I won't be joining in this time though ;)

i have to say no on this one
a lot of retrobikers dabble in modern kit and often it pops up for bargains here (due to the community spirit)
if everyone gets what they want then so be it
there isnt much modern stuff anyway and it does sell most times (lots of it is classic too (refer to retrobike logo))
i do see where other people are coming from about the site becoming too diluted
