That's interesting.. I can't for the life of me remember where I read it (could've been something like DEFRA's site) but the UK was supposed to be clear of Lymes disease..
Or maybe it was just England :?

Anyhoo.. interesting to know it's a very real risk over here.. if not slightly worrying

I'll just give said resident in Yorkshire person a shout...

For the overly squeamish a big blob of Vaseline on the offending beastie works well. They got to breath and tend to let go to get go to get some air.

Please read the professional information.... http://www.lymediseaseaction.org.uk/ticks.htm....

DO NOT try to burn the tick off, apply petroleum jelly, nail polish or any other chemical. Any of these methods can cause discomfort to the tick, resulting in regurgitation, or saliva release.

Camping near Loch Clunie once as a teenager - leaned on forearms for a while to light stove when still int tent, arms on grass. After about a minute counted over a dozen of the b'stards on me arms

Fortunately they were dead wee and most could be picked off easily without harm (to me  )

Hate 'em. Never found anything that would easily remove 'em. Iodine. Grease. Fag ends. Nothing.

Lymes is a lot more prevalent than most people think and its been here for a long time (I met a lady who had it for 10 years)

It took me 18 months to get the right diagnosis (they insisted I had ME) Even though I told them many times my symptoms started after multiple tick bites.

Always use a lasso or tick pliers when removing ticks, don't let it spoil your rides just be-aware and check your self after your rides.

As to were the little blighters hang out just about everywhere if there has been sheep, game birds, deer, dogs, cats, long grass, nettles, etc etc you get the picture.

If you do find you've been bitten remove it with a lasso or pliers, if you suffer flu like symptoms, aching joints or a bulls-eye rash the get to the doctors asap.

If your unsure get your self checked out, Lymes can have many different symptoms.

PS I'm not a Yorkshire-man I'm a refuge from Mancunia

That's surprisingly early HF,

I hadn't really started my usual checking myself, the wife, the kids or the dogs.

Wife was scratching her ears and there it was, fully fed.

Eughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Now going over them thoroughly.

Lymes really is horrible, my uncle had it for many years, whole thing was dreadful.

I use those plastic hook things (on me and the dog), and they work great. Vets sell them for a few pounds. I only really get ticks when I'm hill running, but worth doing regular checks whatever the activity.
