This planet of ours you know...

If we do ever reach the Stars we might come across relics of past Civilizations. We might look at some with sadness on how we just missed them OR sigh in relief at others that the threat they posed has now passed

That would be an epic episode of time team .

Deffo life out there somewhere, inteligent or a slime on a rock doesn't really matter. If not it is an aweful waste of space.

Yes, but if the episodes I've seen are anything to go by, they'll travel half way across the galaxy, dig a hole and find a bit of broken pot the size of a 50 pence piece - rivetting.

There is another issue, the universe might be teaming with life, but it may be quite rare that it evolves to develop and use technology. Technological life isn't a natural end point for evolution and it isn't just a matter of time before it appears, it may be quite a random and freakish occurance. And unless it's possible to develop near or faster than light speed travel, nobody's going anywhere outside their own solar systems in person.

Is unique.

I really can't understand why people hate this fact and spend such terrific amounts of money and effort in trying (utterly unsuccessfully of course) to prove otherwise.

Of course, I know why they do it; they're desperate to believe that our planet, the life on it and most of all us are purely an accident and that we're not going to be accountable for what we do here.

Sorry, every tiny bit of evidence we've ever seen a hint of in the universe says otherwise in one way or another...
