This planet of ours you know...

There are two very important questions:

1. Do they have a Retrobike?
2. Do they have a spare AccuTrax for Yeti?

The Universe is a big place, and life being limited to just this small planet circling a small star is IMO very unlikely.

The problem that I can see is something called TIME

The Universe is supposed to be 13.75 billion years old

Homo Sapiens evolved 250,000 years ago, with civilization taking a few years to get its act together. Industrialisation takes even longer until finally we reach our current technology of the Atomic Era. The earth is apparently 4.5 Billion years old and when we compare this to a 24 hour clock we as a species have only been around for the last 30 seconds.

If we turn that 30 seconds into a 24 hour clock, humans were “Hunter-gatherers” for the first 23 hours and 54 minutes of our existence; and only in the last 6 minutes (i.e. ~10,000 years) have humans adopted Agriculture as the source for their energy needs.

We are a blip !!

So we as a Civilization have only had a very small TIME window where we have been 'visible' to any other civilisations. Radio signals date back to the end of the 19th century so in the scale of things we are very much the New Kids on the Block.

Now think about TIME and how species evolve become extinct and how civilisations rise and fall. The latter can even happen in a single lifetime. Will we as a civilization be around in a 100,000 years? Will we as a species even be around in a 100,000 years............very unlikely looking at the state of the planet.

The reason why it may seem 'quiet around here' and why we aren't part of a Galactic Empire in the way of Star Wars is for a simple fact. Are civilizations simply rising to their pinnacle and falling until nothing remains, without having any contact with each other. Are civilizations being destroyed by cataclysmic events 'just before' contact is made with each other. The 'just before' could be as little as a couple of hundred thousand years in Universe Time.

Are we simply just missing each other along the 'River' of Time?

Why aren't we being inundated with Radio signals from past civilisations?

Well perhaps we were 20 million years ago, 100,00 years ago, 1,000 years ago, 150 years ago. We just couldn't hear them

Perhaps we will again hear signals 150 years, 1000 years, or even next week ( 8) ), etc in the future.

The universe is BIG but TIME makes it even BIGGER !!

"Time… is what keeps everything from happening at once"

and that would be messy :)

I agree with you on reaching for the Stars. That is where our future lies and that should be the main goal of our civilisation. I don't think that there is any current galactic civilisation BUT a future one could be right here living on this rock biding it's time and waiting for a window of opportunity.

If we do ever reach the Stars we might come across relics of past Civilizations. We might look at some with sadness on how we just missed them OR sigh in relief at others that the threat they posed has now passed

There is other life out there, but while it may be intelligent, I don't think it's very imaginative...........cross all that distance, yet they haven't found anything more interesting to do than stick stuff up people's arses..................

Here's the scientific basis behind what you're saying,

I firmly believe there is life out there somewhere it's just probably a very, very long way away!!!

This is called the Fermi Paradox. If there is life out there, why hasn't it found us yet? I think a good working hypothesis is they really don't want to get involved.
