This is why punters tell me they don't like French wine...

Yeah  here here.......dont pick on harry.....if you wind him up he will angle grind my frame that is sitting in his wine cellar

harry is a wine tasting god....and dont forget it

However knowing that you were .." genuinely interested in my perspective"...I hope that helps

Yup...got it now...thanks

And I guess you won't be shopping in an independent wine merchants run by snobs?

No?

Brilliant

You are so wrong...I thoroughly enjoy receiving open-minded novices in my store, listening to their experiences, helping them choose some new tasting experiences, hearing the results and maybe tweaking that direction to suit their palate. And that's at all price points, but really there isn't much that's interesting below £7 nowadays.
Worst customers?....the ill-informed and arrogant...whether they intend to spend £5 or £500.

Anyway, it's only wine, no big deal. You have found the level you are happy with. Let's leave it there

Erm... You do know what Carl does for a living, yes?

I did hazard a guess he maybe in the wine trade yes

Just curious - how did you find your way into this group where most of the members are obsessed with bike labels and many pay more than a bike is worth to restore it?'

By your own logic, a 92 carerra Krakatoa that cost £219 in Halfords is just as good a bike as a Stumpy Comp that cost £800 or a Litespeed with XTR that cost £25000.

I'm sure you can see the contradiction yourself and therefore only ride sub-£200 bikes from chainstores, as a matter of principle.

Well I found it through google if that helps?

and yes how much you spend should never be the deciding factor on a passion..having the passion should always be enough..unless your saying only people who spend shed loads of cash should be retro bike members? could you clarify that contradiction? I would be greatfull

I have no doubt he knows his tastes, my point was that because he does not approve of mine it does not mean I only buy £5 bottles of wine from a supermarket..wine he may know..people he clearly does not..good luck with the angle grinder

Not the ones who assume because you don't like french wine you must be a chav..no

I never said I have never used an independent wine store..I pointed out your assumption that I only bought £5 bottles from supermarkets was a wrong one

yes I have found a level I am happy with..it's called free choice with my own money..and seeing those that claim to be open to all customers actually meant not the chav ones from the superstores

Now, I have pointed out your ignorant incorrectly informed bias..I am happy to leave it there

send me a bottle of good red for about the 25 quid mark when you send my gear down harry......I trust your palette mate....

Now play nicely or bedtime with no supper and a slipper accross your legs you lot

Of course not.

But it's clear that the bikes that win BOTM usually seem to be the ones that have had the most spent on them and have a brand name to boot. Brand cachet and flashy parts just seem to be the aspirational norm in these parts, just as in motoring enthusiast circles it's not the Skoda from your own analogy that most car enthusiasts would aspire to, no matter how good a car it may be.

I was just curious how such a brand-fixated hobby as ours could attract the attention of someone who is clearly immune to such nonsense.

Well db

I would value a member who would be passionate about thier 80 quid bike as equally as someone who spent 8 grand.

The key is the passion not the moola, when it becomes all about the .. Who's spent the most then it rarely offers an understanding of all budgets and all people

I agree for some in retro it is about look how much I spent but for most the acceptance of the passion for retro's is enough
