I woke up one day a couple of weeks ago with a sore throat. By the evening I had aches and pains and assumed I had the flu. I went to bed at 9 and woke up again at 11 with the sorest throat ever. You cant imagine how bad this was, I couldn't swallow at all. I had to spit everything out into a bowl. I went to the docs after a very long and painfull night and he gave me some anti biotics and told me to argle asprin. Then at 12 noon Id got so bad my throat was closing up on me and I was severely dehydrated so an Ambulance was called and I was immediately put on a ventilator. I was diagnosed with having a dangerous infection of the airways called Epiglotitus. I spent 3 days in hospital on a steroid and fluid drip, and had to take oral morphine to ease the pain. Since I have recovered I have lost over a stone and a half in weight. My stomach has shrunk and Im eating half of what I used to throuout the day. My skin has never been clearer and I feel like Ive got someone elses body now when Im flying up hills on the stead.
Looking back now, dispite how bad I was at the time, I am very thankful I was ill because I would've never lost that sort of weight on my own. Im making sure Im eating plenty of protein so as not to lose muscle, and weight is still coming off! Its gonna be expensive for clothes!
Just thought Id share that with anyone who thought the noro virus was bad. Has anyone had a similar experience? Would be interesting to find out how it affected your cycling
