Things have moved on!!

the full susser might be quicker but it ain't as much fun as getting shaken to bits on a well dialed hardtail.

I'll agree with that.......for the best of both worlds, go big, try a hardtail 29er 8)

TT - I appreciate that this is retrobike but your views are archaic. Do yourself a favour and test ride a modern FS bike, I'd thoroughly recommend a Yeti ASRc or Orange 5 - and then come back to us and tell us your Trimbles are faster up or down hill. That said you'd get lost on South Downs on anything!

I've tried modern suser and retro suser. Both the same shit just different paint.
A bike is only as fast as the rider.

you've never lived.........

i think all styles of bike bring something different to the table.....i have all types in my garage from a fully rigid attitude and a hardtail dave yates with manitou 1 forks through to my race bike,a trek 8500 and a full susser trek ex9.....the hardtail bikes do seem to give an extra connection with the terrain when riding and demand a little extra concentration to get lines right....take those skills to the full susser and the average speed finds an extra dimension......i love the security of 180 mm disc brakes too, they give you options to avoid those wide eyed life flashing moments i have had from time to time when trying to squeeze blood from a set of cantis against wet rims

Can of worms opened here I think. My original post was simply to point out that after years of resistance I finally tried a full susser - no one likes getting rattled to bits on a rigid more than me, if I keep up with others on full sussuers when I am on a rigid then even better. I triad an Orange ST4 yesteday and was well impressed, thus me being up at 7 a.m. on a Sunday for more. All I can say is to all those cynics is dont knock it till you tried it. One thing I would say is that I was out yesterday with a chap who knows his stuff when setting up a bike - if it was not for him the bike would of been like a " space hopper" so if you do go full suss make sure it is set up right by someone who knows what they are doing. As for suspension should be reserved for vehicles with an engine - do you know what that ST4 has more movement than some of the machines I ride and race off road

Anyway go to go the trails await
