just been out for a curry with some friends, both riders, one is 24 and has worked in the trade at a specialized dealer for the last year but has been into bikes for around 10 years and the other is my old saturday guy who is 22 and has worked in the trade for about 6 years on saturdays and holidays.

the conversation turned to bikes as it always does with us and i found it amazing that they didn't even know these names! especially as one works at a specialized dealer!! i realise they were quite young when these guys were about but even so! it's part of the history of mtb.

Yeah, but to be fair they weren't exactly old enough to be aware of Ned when he was competing; though I believe he is actually now the Captain of the XC team so you'd have thought the name would have at least rung a bell from promo literature?

They were also both too young to be aware of (or even the significance of) JMCs death in '95, being just 5 and 7 respectively...

...just have to face it, you're getting old

Yea, I don't consider myself to be old (34) but it does make you feel old when talking to younger rider. Sean Palmer who I consider to be one of the most influential riders ever is unknowen to a lot of young DHer's! even though he pretty much shaped the style they all follow.
My San Andreas is actually older than the Australian national DH champ!
Mountain biking was such a new sport when I started and it has gone through so many changes. I think it's seen in a different light by the younger gen.

To be fair, I didn't know who JMC was till a while after I joined this site. Sorry but sometimes people are just not that interested about a small sport, even by the people who are in or have it as a hobby.

He honestly cannot have been that important in the world. Maybe to those that saw him as an idol/superstar then he was.
