There is no hope for me!

I love the fact there is a torque setting from the reflector bracket. there is zero reason to need to torque that (excluding not crushing the frame because you are a spanner wielding gorilla)
I'm sorry but are you referring to the cantilever brale straddle wire safety device? :D
Considering your experience, you of all people should recognise the importance of the correct torque there.

You will soon be my main supplier/dealer 😃
The police will have a stakeout opposite on the assumption that he's your county lines dealer

Standard bolts have a standard torque figure - they only need to indicate where that differs to industry standards

Spoke reflectors would deffo be one. 🤣

Ok I have not managed to take the British Eagle out yet. I thought I'd better give it the once over before getting a nasty surprise on a steep descent .

1. Check the brakes and they have those safety canti straddle things...so off with the reflectors. Brakes work fine and they are adjusted quite nicely with decent pads.
2. Check the gears, slight cable adjustment needed to get a crisper change on the rear mech and the front is spot on.
3, I'm not happy with how far the stem is raised (look at the picture) and sure enough there are only a scant couple of inches in the steerer.
4. While looking at steerer I notice that raising it has put a lot of strain on the gear cables which are too short with the stem at this height This in turn has snapped both barrel adjsuter in the shifter bodies. Out with the stud extractor and I remove both snapped end bits. Replace barrel adjusters.
5. Several of the outer cables are cracked so replace those too.
6. Decide that the existing 50cm straight bars are way too narrow and put in a new stem with more rise and a longer quill and add 60cm bar with a slight rise...much more comfortable.
OK now the dog needs feeding and I'm a little peckish myself so the ride must wait until later but the bike is well fettled now...I think!

I'll let you know.
