The stiff upper lip, British resolve, why are us Brits so uptight ?

And with that why does alcohol feature so much when Brits are supposed to be enjoying themselves, where many other cultures can do so without alcohol ?

Victorian values still hanging around on how to behave, but there is the other side to UK with over expression of chav like people, shouting and stuff, but their still hung up, certainly not chilled. A split culture ?

As for booze, been on a few courses recently about booze and drugs, never realized the stuff was so toxic at high levels,..........can act like a solvent on your myelin nerve coatings and brain.........also when you reach the point of vomiting, your not that far away from body shut down and death, after all the body is vomiting as a warning of poison overload. I'm guilty of that in the past, many many times.

We've drank alcohol for centuries as mead given the water was more likely to make you ill.
I remember reading somewhere that Brits have it in their genes or something to prevent being poisoned by it,whereas Johnny Foreigner doesnt.

That said just about every culture has fermented something into a alcoholic drink used from everything from a general everyday thirst quencher to medical usage through to religious ceremonies :?

Other cultures, particularly Islamic cultures where alcohol is forbidden, they appear to be able to go out and enjoy themselves and yes be zany in places, but they don't use alcohol, yet in the UK every experience alcohol is available and maybe we feel it necessary to imbibe ?

They use drugs instead The lads i know either puff copious amounts of skunk or chew khat.

That might be some, perhaps those that ascribe to a youth culture, but in many Islamic countries the use of drugs and trafficking in drugs carries the death penalty, so that method of chilling out seems insane when using alcohol would if caught be imprisonment or public corporal punishment and ostracisation, so there has to be something other than intoxicants to chill. Or is it I/we am/are thinking from a western perspective where it is we are used to using intoxicants to chill so therefore expect others must do also ?

No offence but these are hardly model countries you speak of :? sure booze is one thing but maybe the lack off it is causing mass murder and barbaric practises.
Not a lot has changed in the past 1000 years there and it aint working thats for sure
You want booze go to Saudi.You want drugs? Go to Afghanistan.You want gambling? go to Pakistan.

Lets face reality here,under most 'religions' something is usually a no no but in the real reality everyone does what ever suits them just cos there is a few bad apples,dont think everyone thinks or acts that way.

Since the dawn of humans mind bending substances were used and they will be used until the end of time im sure.

People are always looking for new experinces, out of curiosity i guess - thus its built in. As with most animals, its just such that we possess the skills to proceed with these sorts of things.

We are the only animal that has an emzyne to break down and process alcohol !.........but then we would developed that over time cos we are the only animals to be able to manufacture it.
