The scrap men commeth - or runneth to my door

One walked into my workshop a few weeks back and asked if i would weld in a new step panel into his Transit ( the part with the chassis number on it). He said the original (which had been cut out) had gone all rusty ( not a spot of rust on the rest of the vehicle that looked about five years newer than the registation year). He showed me the new panel which he claimed had had the numbers stamped on by the local plod. Unfortunately half the letters and numbers were upside down.

Thieving bastards.

I'd be taking an extra special interest in home (and garage) security from now on if I were you.
Couple of years ago some dodgy characters were putting up some fencing in the neighbours garden and spotted my motorbike before I had put the cover over it..... funnily enough the bike was stolen a few nights later.
Coincidence???
Not a coincidence in Redcar. When I moved there in 2004, it was a only couple of nights before the old shed in the garden was broken into. Not much was taken, but immediately afterwards I transferred everything from the shed into the attic.

Then I demolished the shed.

Funnily enough, the young man who came by a few days later to peer through the gaps in our fence looked rather perplexed as his eyes searched all over the garden....

Just out of curiosity, did you weld the panel?

If i had welded the panel it would be me that changed the stolen vehicles identity. Thats a pretty serious offence and the Motor Trade has a bad enough rep as it is.

I slyly took a photo with my phone of him with the van reg behind him and called the cops after he left.

Good man!

But one thing that is important to remember with them, in case you are worried.

They are so universally hated as a group, they tend to have very short memories.

This is all going to get much worse as the police cut back.
