The Rockhopper has changed somewhat in 20years

From a purely personal opinion point of view I find the modern Specialized bikes to be visually bloated and ugly

They have changed a fair bit haven't they. I had a modern Rockhopper a few years back. I was looking for an alloy frame with more old school geometry and a 135 qr rear end. Ended up being cheaper to buy an entry level Rockhopper and bin all the parts than buy an equivalent frame. It was 1800g. I, as usual, went a bit overboard with the spec and ended up with a 10kg/22lb bike that rode superbly. Then I quit my job and unfortunately it had to go.

I find most modern MTBs visually challenging and modern sizing makes no sense to me at all. Bloody good though, in the main.

I had a 2005 Rockhopper (or was it a Hardrock, cant remember which) and I must admit it was a cracking fun ride.

All of the bikes posted so far are quite lovely, despite my above statement and I know the modern bikes are so much more capable, but I just really prefer the thinner tubing of the older bikes.

A modern steel bike is my preference. you get the skinny tubes but a modern geometry.

A '95 Rockhopper (in red/white) was my first properly good mountain bike. I still know where that bike lives and its current owner promised to sell it back to me when he's done with it.

I would happily fit either (or both) into my stable. 'Hoppers are the unsung hero of the Spesh lineup, have always been solid all terrain bikes. Plus, green bikes are faster
