the retro hi-fi thread!

I must confess to having a very sketchy understanding of electricity [by the time we got to coulombs in physics, my mind had been addled by underage drinking and girls].

On silver vs copper: what's the difference? When I wired up my top secret, ex military, cheap ebay silver wire I noticed an instant difference: I became more suave, found I could mix the perferct martini, and every time I put on Love over gold it brought a tear to my eyes ......

Have to say, the most noticable tweaks were filling the stands and using a peoper support stand.

A solid base for bass...

Suave is a noticeable difference. After about 2 glasses of wine, the sound of your hifi improves no end.

i love my linn K400.

it's just so needless

With lots of new members some of whom might be into hi-fi, I thought I'd bring this back.
So -come and 'ave a word if ya think yer dull enough! :P

The pickup is the only upgrade I've done to my system in the last quarter of a century or so...

Most of my kit is modern and home Cinema based, PS3, PC with Audigy 2 Platinum EX and a Denon 1910 AV amp. My speakers though are Tannoy Mercury F3's and my CD player (when I dig it out) is a Sony CDP-790 from about 1988. It still sounds better than the other sources.
Had some Mission 733's and they did the self destructing driver thing and you can't get replacements anymore  .
Also had one of the very early 80's Luxman amps which I sold a little while ago.

My old man has a System with Linn Basik turntable (Akito arm). Pioneer A400 and B&W 601's, he also has a CDP790 as well.

Carl.
