The New versus the Old: Surly Troll

Has anyone ridden this modern steel rigid Mountain bike?
(It seems to be the only rigid steel Mountain bike made today).
I wonder how does it compares with its vintage brethren?

I ride a 1X1 Surly which is the singlespeed version this is based on and it rides brilliantly. After a lot of miles and a few years behind us I couldn't recommend it high enough. I hopped on mine after my 94 Stumpjumper singlespeed and it felt right at home straight out the box.
I have also thought about one of these for my wife as she likes the 1X1 but would like something with a few gears.
