Interesting use of the word.Quick google seems to suggest it's derived from old English,meaning 'dear' not 'deer'.Wonder if that was a mis-translation by Shimano?Funny if it was.

just checked the etymology - old English indeed Deor though seems to have Germanic/Dutch origines
