The meaning of 'Deore'

It is not from Old English dēor=beast ? I don´t know exactly. The other story is that comes from Deer, and annother history is that it is a typo.

Just goes to show how complex the English language is,so many influences.The Germans,for example,seem to have a word for everything we don't.But the English language has 3 x as many words as German.Or so I was told by a German born English/French teacher.
I'm sure any mistake made in translation would never be admitted to!
