It's got some really rough lumps of old kitchen worktop and I'd like to replace them with something more suitable/in better condition..

What do folk use for their workbench tops??

It's about 10ft long (may be 8.. will have a measure later) and I'd like it in one piece if I can...

use a sheet of stainless

10ft x 30" sheet of s/steel?? Holy cow how much would that cost??

Bearing in mind it's a rented house and an old (but seemingly sound) wooden shed, if I'm weighing out larger lumps of cash it would be better spend elsewhere ;)

I forgetthe name of it now, but the board used on the floor's of vans is very strong. Gorilla board I think it's called.

Thinking I might cut the bench down a bit.. it'd give me some extra floor (and wall) space and cut the cost of replacing the top..

I mean.. how big does a workbench need to be??

I suspect 5 or 6ft would be more than adequate..??

Will Google for gorilla board later.... 8)

just get some planks
and some of those plastic chopping boards you can get from the pound shop
its not as if you need a surgery table is it

Any sturdy / scrap sub-base will do,, but get a sheet of 3/4" MDF as a sacrificial worktop. You can fix stuff , drill into it and generally abuse it. When it gets too tatty, chuck it and get a new one.
(Many timber yards will cut it to size for you.)

my dad has kitchen worktop!
works well
white is better to see stuff

and yeah he only uses about 5/6ft of his, if that
cut some off and put in more storage?
